I got off the bus from Bangkok and finally in Chiang, Mai after 14 hours of a very long and boring ride with no TV, internet, or people who share the same language to chat with! It was just me and my thoughts, amazing how many business ideas you can get on a bus ride like that! lol
When I got off the bus, it was dark! Very dark for a girl with no internet or cell service to know where the hell to go! Oh, there goes my plan to get an uber once I get off the bus! There’s no wifi anywhere… I walked for a very long time until I finally decided I have no idea where I’m going and I gave up on my ideology of never taking taxis ever! New York City taxis traumatized me forever! I no longer trust taxis and their insane prices! But I had no choice… I had to go with those creepy taxi drivers who are eyeing you out walking randomly to nowhere!
Before I got into the taxi, I unconsciously but purposely was kinda interrogating the taxi driver, and I said “How much do you charge?” and he replied “Where you’re going?” and I quickly replied back “It doesn’t matter where I’m going just tell me how much do you charge, per mile, per minute? How much?” he laughed and said with a firm voice “Where are you going?” and at that point I was so tired to even argue and in my head I said “Fine, I’ll tell him where I’m going.. I have to, in order to get a quote, but I swear to god if he tries to treat me like a stupid tourist and charge me a crazy amount, I’m not having it!” and he said “20 Dollars” and I replied ” It’s 4 minutes away and this is Thailand you don’t take dollars!!” he laughed and said “20 Dollars minimum” I sighed and told myself “What the Frek, I knew this shit was gonna happen, I just can not cross a highway, there are no sidewalks! What The Frek” so I said “Okay” in a very discouraged upset voice, and I kept telling myself he probably needs it way more than me!
After 10 minutes, the driver tells me I don’t know where this address is, and I have my maps.me app with its offline map with the hostel address in it as I tried to correct his route, 20 minutes later, and he started panicking and getting upset that the meter is running and the ride is starting to actually cost the amount he asked me to pay! Karma works in funny ways, and I’m just sitting in the back and I told him that I’m not getting out until I get to the address we agreed on before I got into the taxi! So he started asking people on the streets for the hostel calling its name.
30 minutes later, it turned out the Hostel had the wrong location online, and I finally was able to get to the hostel before check-in ends! Thank god!
In the morning, I had a meeting with some of the digital nomad girls based in Chiang Mai because I was thinking about moving there, and I wanted to network!
