When I first arrived in Thailand, I wasn’t planning to be there!
My original plan was to get Singapore, Malaysia, and after that, Thailand! Thailand was the third country on my list.. but Luckily (Yes, Luckily! because Thailand turned out to be one of the most spiritually needed spots for my soul to refuge to! I’ll clarify within the next posts!)
Anyways- “But Luckily… I ended up going to Thailand, and I was able to get my visa in two days .. (I know right! so fast..) I instantly knew that I have a journey ahead of me, full of adventure and excitement right after I got my passport back and looked inside it to find my visa on it!
I landed in Bangkok because of my flight choice.. my cheap option landed me there! My flight cost me $300 roundtrip. (I can teach you how to find options like that too!) Bangkok is such a popular touristy spot! it’s the capital! But my goal wasn’t Bangkok.. it was Chiangmai!
When I got to Bangkok… I took public transportation, trying to find the bus terminal! And somehow, it was free! My luck because I had no cash whatsoever! I didn’t know why it was free at the beginning, and I wasn’t sure why everyone was dressed in Black but me! I was wearing green (so full of life!), but everyone else was dressed in fancy all-Black and heading towards the same place! (and it’s Where I was heading to catch my 14 hours bus ride to Chiangmai!)
What I later found out that the subway was free and everyone was wearing black and heading to the same spot as me because it was the King’s funeral! I swear I felt like I was the only tourist out there (I was the only tourist out there near that funeral! I had no one to talk to and ask for directions.. because you know me! I had no cellular service and can’t find free wifi anywhere…
after I got off the train, I tried to use my offline Maps.Me app to find the bus terminal (that was in the wrong spot on the map) This app is a lifesaver sometimes.. when I find the rare things that I am looking for! Lol
after 3 hours of walking back and forth and trying to find that stupid bus terminal with my backpack that is full of three months worth of adventure and my laptop!
I was close to giving up! I just wanted to go home.. but after letting that sigh out of my system.. I got up and started walking around again and asking another five individuals that don’t speak English for help trying to find that bus terminal… I was running around the funeral location and across the street there was another bus terminal.. and I was asked multiple times if I was looking at that one that was across the road but I wasn’t! and I swear I thought about just walking into that close bus terminal and getting a ticket from them.. but I already had pre-paid for my bus ticket with the other non-existing bus terminal!
Until I finally found one girl who spoke broken English.. you should’ve seen the tears in my eyes when she replied, “oh, that terminal is not here… it’s 25 minutes away!” both my heart and face couldn’t tell if they should be happy, sad, or break down in tears because I have 28 minutes before my bus leaves!
And that’s when I felt defeated… I sighed 😔 even more.. and I told her, “where can I find wifi, please… maybe I can get an uber there” and she offered me to use her hotspot… I knew at that moment that God is taking care of me, and I knew that everything would be okay.
I god an uber using her hotspot and I asked her if she can tell the driver to try to rush there really quick because I need to catch that bus.. and she explained the situation to the driver!
And you know what! After I got out of that friendly uber driver’s car… I ran like I never ran before… I had no breath to catch as I was talking to the receptionist and showing her my ticket for that bus!
My ticket was a first-class bus ticket. It cost me like $30, which is a lot compared to the back seat tickets that I could’ve got for $11.. my ticket was special for me because 1) I don’t ever get first-class tickets.
2) it was pre-paid with a super small $700 budget for three months trip.. that I already spent $300 on flights!
3) it came with food! or more like a snack box! Anyways, it was food for my hungry and tired self that has been traveling for the past 48 hours with no cash and tight on time!
I got on my bus finally.. and I relaxed back my seat that was in front of the bus upper-level! So I was gazing at the road as I try to fall asleep! For the next 14 hours to Chiangmai…
To be continued
By the way… I went back to Bangkok at the end of the trip around Thailand (remember my flight leaves from there!), and I’ve had a real adventure around the city! to be talked about…
