Yeah… Macau is a country!! It’s one of those places that I didn’t know existed before.. and I feel so ashamed of that!
It’s a region in China that was occupied by Portugal before, but China took over, and I guess Macau reclaimed itself!! Not sure.
But in Macau, both Portugal and Chinese cultures are heavily influenced! It’s like if China and Portugal had a baby and they called it Macau!
They Speak three different languages; Chinese (Mandarin, Portuguese, and English) and all the street signs, flyers, and bus stops are in those three languages!
My trip to Macau was very suddenly, in less than a week I was asked if I wanted to attend PATA as an official blogger and get a chance to speak onstage during the Influencers session.. and I immediately said yes! I had no clue where Macau is exactly if I needed a visa if I have enough money or where to stay! I just jumped at the opportunity!
I went on Booking.com and got a stay at a really cool cheap hotel a bus stop away from the conference!!
Yes, of course, I would take the bus.. how else can I see the city and experience it like a local?
Uber? yeah, I used that as well… but I was determined to use the bus at most times!
The cool thing about the public buses in Macau is that they have three different languages.. written, spoken and advertised! Lol
that means if you wanted to hear or read the next bus stop you have to wait for the Chinese, Portuguese and then the English translation of it on the board or the automated speaker!
The conference was at The Venetian… I never went to the one in Las Vagas, I got to see the one in Macau!!
and let me tell you… THAT PLACE IS INSANE!!
Anyways, I walked in between the shops (Of course I got lost for 3 hours!) but when I kinda knew where I was, I was greeted with this small show!!
Me, going to The Venetian! I didn’t know what it is or how it is, or even what the hell is it!!
Welcome to the Las Vagas of ASIA!
I couldn’t keep trying to discover the place.. because to be honest, I felt like it’s unreasonably big and that made me really frustrated!
Yeah, because of how unrealistically big the place is!! I had to go back to the conference area
Hello PATA: Pacific Asia Travel Association Mart!
The Macau government had an awesome dinner prepared for us showcasing their lovely mixed culture of Portuguese and Chinese
I got a beautiful few souvenirs from Macau, like the side-face shadow artwork!! it looks cooler than what it sounds in English!
Grasshopper Art!
One of the really cool things is that I got to go on stage and introduce myself to so many travel brands from Asia and the world…
Not to forget the amazing new connections I got and new bloggers’ friends I made 😀 (I definitely recommend going to the future PATA conferences)
and I actually got to meet fans of my blog in person and that made my day, every day and it still does 😀
Now I’ll leave you with some really cool footage from the cultural performances in Macau 😀
I was a little busy with that conference that I actually forgot to tour the city… that’s why this trip is not complete yet 😀
